Clontarf is about as central to Sydney as you could hope to get – unless you were able to moor a yacht right on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. Clontarf is a very new and highly sought after marina. Its 370-metre deck seems to stretch forever and its idyllic prestige restaurant, Sandy Bear, is the perfect place to have lunch before you sail off into the sunset.
The marina is found at Sandy Bay on the north eastern shore of Middle Harbour and on the ocean side of Spit Bridge. It’s the perfect jumping off point and you’re right in the heart of every major Sydney festivity. New Year’s Eve fireworks? Sydney to Harbour yacht race? Australia Day celebrations? This location trumps it every time.

This latest version of the Hanse is easily one of the best yet! It has the self-tacking headsail that Hanse is famous for. This allows you to sail solo or short-handed. Having guests over and want to enjoy relaxing rather than complex wind running?
The self-tacking headsail and lines all running aft mean that the boat is virtually on auto pilot! The crossover sail is actually a hybrid jib/genoa that means you can get traction in pretty much any wind range.
The 418 hasn’t forgotten about light and ventilation either – a big drawcard of the earlier models. The 418 has six hull windows and glass skylights near the companion way. This allows below deck to be drenched in light and opens up the space. It’s airy, clean and sleek – pretty much the ideal yachting experience!
Step down below and you’ll find two roomy double cabins. Not only are they big but they have forward layouts and are very private. The generous storage space is one of the upgraded features of the Hanse 418 models.
The cream upholstery and the lightly tanned Italian oak cabinetry are a stylish touch and really open up the space. The Hanse 418 has the classic galley L shape, which makes it easy to create a mini-kitchen. Even better, there’s a top and bottom loading fridge, microwave and stainless steel sink.
There’s no question about its entertainment value. The multimedia system and LED and mood lighting make it almost impossible not to have a great time!
But it’s the many hatches and skylights that are the real stars. Discreetly positioned, they allow light to fill the space and keep everything airy and bright. The sunlight really makes the features sing: the light textures of the woodwork and the elegant, inviting sofa. A fold up saloon table is a clever use of space.
